Final Project ideas

So these are my ideas for final project. So my first idea was to shoot the phases of the moon but i realized that with the camera i have now, i can't zoom in so it will all be blank background with a tiny bit of foreground so unless i get another high tech camera i don't think i can do that.

So my second idea was to shoot a rose, but to elongate the time to really show the passage of time. I wanted to show it throughout the whole year but then realized that that would be really too hard, and that i might actually have to spend a year shooting it. So i've pretty much decided i'm just going to shoot a regular rose with it's regular time, and i think that that will show the passage of time just enough.

Although this isn't my final final idea, i'm pretty convinced that this is what i want to do, but i'm still keeping my mind open for new ideas.


(p.s. i didn't post sooner cause my computer broke and can't get on the internet so Mr. Patteson, i know it shows i did it today at lunch but it wasn't my fault!)

Robert Frank: The Americans

Robert Frank was born on November 9, 1924 in Zürich, Switzerland. His parents were Jewish. Because Switzerland remained neutral during WWII he escaped from being killed by the Germans. Frank learned photography from a man that lived down the block, his name was Hermann Segesser. At the age of 18, he became Segesser's apprentice. Later Frank learned how to use large format cameras and controlled lighting in a studio. In 1947 Frank left Switzerland and moved to New York.But soon he started to travel around the world and didn't come back to New York until 1957. He published many books but m Frank's most famous book that was published was The Americans. When The Americans was first released there had been some question about the book. It seemed that the book showed more of the negative side of America, altough it became his ost famous book. '



I'm not sure why i like this picture but i do. I think what i really like about the picture is the detail it shows. The detail of the pavement and how shiny it is just draws me in to the picture. I also like how you can see the car in the back. It makes the picture look almost mysterious.



I think this picture is fantasitic. I think the contrast is amazing and i just think that it's a beautiful picture. There's not much i can say about it other than it's amazing. I just think that the way he causght the emotions in both of them is just simply amazing and it really shows what America used to be like. Sure people then probably didn't like it but now it just shows some little bit of what America used to be like.



This is the cover of his book and i think that it's pretty interesting. Robert Frank likes to include an american flag in a lot of his pictures and this one is really interesting because the flag is covering the one man's face. I'm still not sure of what it's suppossed to mean and i've tried to come up with different messages that Frank wanted to give with this picture, but i just haven't come up with one yet. But it's still a fantastic picture.



Although this picture isn't in his book The Americans, i still really like it. People used to think that his pictures had a very gloomy feeling to them that i don't think that this one necisarily has. I also really like this picture because it makes you wonder what she's looking at.



This picture i think is a little scary just because of the freaky santa claus in the back. This picture really shows the emotion of the waitress and it shows that she has had a bad day. Frank is really good at capturing people's emotions and i think he did a fantastic job in this photo.

My Final Project

It's a sad day cause the end of the term is here..... So this is my final project and I was way excited to do it. My final project was on the alphabet. In my earlier post I said that i wanted to photograph gas station signs. Well i didn't actually do that because it was a horrible week. Well first we went to California (well i'm not really complaining about that part...) and didn't stop for gas once. Then I was going to photograph when I got home but then I went and fractured my foot. So gas station signs were out of the question, so really all the photos I got were in California. Now that we're over with my sad story I'll now talk about my pictures. So here's another sad thing, last class Mr. Slade gave me this fantabulous idea about how to spell a word lik L-O-V-E. I thought that was a really good idea (kudos to Mr. Slade). Well I had an O and an V but I still needed and L and and E, well then Emma gave me a great idea to use hands and that's what i did (kudos to Emma). So then all i needed was and E which was pretty easy cause my mom collects rocks and so i just made an E out of those. So finally all there was left to do was put them in order. So I went to my blog and was halfway through putting my pictures on the blog and then realized that i couldn't put them in order cause that would have meant deleting them off the blog and then putting them back on, and since i was doing this at home that meant i couldn't put the O, V, and U back on because they're at school (did that make any sense?). So that's why they're not in order but my intentions were good ((**devil sarah speaks* "not that intentions matter in anything* *angel sarah speaks* "intentions always count!"*) that was my devil angel impression you know where they always come on your shoulder and speak to you and nobody else can here them?) Anyway the three pictures I like best are the one of the U (or the M, whatever way you look at it...), the L, and the V. I like these picture the best because they show that you can look at things differently, for example the golden gate bridge (well it's not the real one, it's the one at California Adventures) but most people just think of it as the golden gate bridge, not many people look at it and say "hey look a U!" Anyway the other pictures aren't my favorite because they all have something in common.... they're all grey (ugh!). So that's my really long description on my final project..... I really am sad the term is ending though.

My Final Project: The Alphabet

I don't really know how I came up with the idea of an alphabet project it just kind of popped in my head. One of the first things that popped up in my mind was gas station signs and there was just something about that, that intrigued me, because some gas station signs are really funky. What I mean alphabet i mean to get letters of the alphebet photographed. I know that sounds really easy but my goal is to get really unique pictures of the letters.

Assignment 5: Reshoot

this is my original picture, as you can see the light pretty much stinks.


this is the picture i reshot.... the light is a lot better but it's blurry and i only had the chance to shoot once because i was sick.

Color Conversion

This is the original picture that i took....It's kind of colorful becasue she's wearing a pink shirt and all and then you have like the green plant in the back.

This is after the grey scale conversion. Also it's probably pretty obvious i burned because i really can't do burning.

Assignment 4: Portraits

I'm not really crazy on this picture because this was a last minute, because i ran out of time so it's not very good. I also was really bad at burning the sky and all.


I really like this picture, but it seems a little gray, and the garages in the back were hard to burn and you might be able to tell that i have. This picture kind of lies because it makes him look sweet and innocent but trust me he's a little devil child.



I really like this picture too because of the blury affect. Although when you look closely at the picture her nose looks like a goblin nose.




I also really like this picture because she's looking at something outside the frame. And it makes you wonder what she's thinking about.



This is a really cute brother and sister photo because they look like a happy family, but i stress the word look because in real life she actually doesn't like her brother that much, but really who does?

Again I really like this picture because it's a cool silhouette. It is taken through my front door so it makes the person on the other side look foggy. One thing that kind of bugged me though was that it was kind of crooked.

I think this was a hard project to do. And overall I'm not very crazy about my pictures. I think that a lot of my pictures had their background and foreground battling so i think that i really have to work on that.


What I Learned: I learned that portraits are really hard to take because people move and breathe and won't stand still, and also flesh is really hard to make look real.
What I Could Learn Better: One word: Burning.
What didn't work: Again burning. In about every picture I burned and it pretty much failed.
What made me cry: The first picture. It was a last minute thing at lunch and i just couldn't get it right, but i think i'll redo it later.
Laugh: The fact that the little boy looks so sweet and innocent.
Smirk: That i'm the only one who knows who's behind the door.....although i bet you could guess....
Bawl: The fact that every person moves to much and all my pictures came out blurry.
Swear and Cuss: The fact that i suck at burning.
